One of the books that I read to apply kumihimo to fly tying is Kumihimo Japanese Silk Braiding Techniques by Catherine Martin. There was a quote in there that I really liked. When I am tying at shows, I often get asked “Why do you spend so much time tying one fly”. This quote by Catherine does a great job at answering that question.
The pursuit of a discipline for its own sake is an end in itself, and in artistic matters too the activity is just as valuable as the product.
