The fly for the NW Fly Tyers and Fly Fishing Expo this year is an Orange Steelheader Bucktail. I was not very familiar with this pattern, so I tried to look up some information and found there is not a lot of info out there on this pattern. I was able to find a blurb in Fish and Flies – The Encyclopedia of the Fly Tier’s Art by Terry Hellekson. Here are my versions of the fly. I used Lagartun’s Mini Flat Braid for the body and calf tail for the wings. The hook on the left is a Mustad 3908 A size 2. The hook on the right is a Tiemco 300 size 2.
