Checkers Fly – Kumihimo Braid

Checkers Fly

This is something that I have been working on for a while.  It is called Kumihimo and it is a Japanese braiding technique.  The body uses 16 pieces of rayon floss in groups of 2 – for 8 strands braided on the fly.  It is hard to see but there is also a row of red on the top as well.  It still needs some work to be more consistent, but I was pretty excited with the results of this fly.  There are a lot of possibilities with this technique with body coloring and texture.
