Max Canyon Kumihimo Variation

Here is a Max Canyon inspired fly. It is done with a kumihimo woven body. There are 4 strands each of orange, light orange, brown, and black for a total of 16 strands. It is hard to see the brown against the black, but does offer a little contrast.

Woven Golden Stonefly

Here is a woven stonefly I tied this weekend. I learned to tie woven body flies 19 years ago from a tyer named Joe Ayer. Woven bodies are one of my favorite techniques to use in fly tying.

Borden Special Kumihimo Variation

This is my version of the Borden Special. This is the Show fly this year for the NW Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Expo that is held in Oregon every year. For the past seven or so years they have done a fly plate with the show poster and flies for a variety of tyers of the show fly. This fly will be in that plate this year.

If you plan on attending the show please stop by and say hi.  I am planning on demonstrating the kumihimo technique for steelhead flies.

This is a Balmoral spey fly that Mark Mercer tied for a competition on the Classic Fly Tying Forum in 2013.  I was lucky enough to win it in an auction.  Mark does some beautiful work.
